Exalted Ruler’s Column – September 2019

Summer is in the books and fall is around the corner. Whatever you are doing for Labor Day, be safe! School is in so watch out for the children and don’t ever pass the school bus when it has its red lights on or displaying the stop sign!!

As summer wound down, we hosted Jamboree which was a fun event. We had many Elks from around our district in for the weekend starting with Friday night cook your own steak, Saturday we had four teams competing for the chowder cook off with Novato taking home first place and yours truly along with my team of Scott Reinsmith and Jan Belarde, taking second place. Saturday night we had a fantastic dinner of prime rib with all the fixings prepared by Kathy Payne and her crew. Saturday night featured a dinner show filled with music and song.

To finish the weekend off, James and his crew put on quite the breakfast spread! Thanks to all who participated and supported this event. Our lodge received a check for $1000.00 from the Jamboree Committee which will be added to our scholarship account as we met our per capital in the selling of raffle tickets. Our lodge sold over $10,000. worth of tickets. We had several members in the win column with the raffle.

Reminder, members when you bring guests to the lodge, you are responsible for them, responsible for their behavior, responsible for paying for them. This is a reminder that we will not accept checks or credit cards from non-members. When you bring a guest encourage them to join the lodge. Remember, this is a private club and there are benefits in joining. The purpose of our lodge is to serve our members.

I believe we are getting close to having an Event Coordinator! We are still in need of a Kitchen Manager, if you have managerial skills, contact me at 707-498-3101. We are looking for contractors among our ranks that have experience with concrete work. If you have that experience, please either call the clerk at the lodge or me at 707-498-3101 and get your name on the list. We will be in need hopefully soon and you don’t want to miss out. We will contact you when we are ready to start the process.

If you are a golfer, Scott our Loyal Knight has a Sunday golf tournament scheduled on the 22nd of this month, sign up for it. Scott also has a fun event scheduled in October on the 12th, he is putting on Oktoberfest with our own Hans Gerstacker cooking authentic German food!!! This is also the homecoming for Brad Smith as he finishes making his way around our district inspecting all the lodges. So plan on being at the lodge to welcome Brad and Janet home and support Scott’s fundraiser for the Elks National Foundation.

Mark your calendar for Halloween Havoc, October 26. This event is always fun. Look for more information on this in this edition of the Herd Talk. Remember this is Lodge is yours, come on out and enjoy it, get involved and bring your friends and sign with up to become members!
