Leading Knight – August 2020

Welcome back everyone! The Lodge will be opening back up for outdoor dining for our
regular Wednesday and Friday night dinners. Your temperature will be checked at the door
and hand sanitizer will be used before entering. Masks will be worn until you are seated
outside. We have set up five large tents and some heaters out on the deck, so come on down
for some good food and drink and help support your Lodge.

My fundraiser Golf Tournament is still on for Saturday, August 22nd. I already have sponsors for all nine
holes and many prizes. Some teams have already signed up and there are limited spaces, so get your team
signed up before spaces fill up. I will be putting a flyer and sign-up sheet up in the Lodge.
I am also planning a “Support Elks #652” Car Show for Saturday, September 26th. Vehicles (cars, trucks,
bikes and trikes) will be spaced at least six feet apart with lots of room for viewing while social distancing.
A lunch will be provided afterwards out on the deck for a donation. The fee to sign up a vehicle for the event
is $25.00. We will have judging and some prizes given. Sign-up sheet and information will be posted at the
Lodge so come down or call in. Hope to see you there.

Oktoberfest should still go on as planned, but may be outside. Unless things change and everything opens
back up, I think I will have to cancel the Halloween Party and the Men’s Fashion show… maybe next year
these can return.

Marta, Kathy and I participated in a Zoom Meeting with the District Leaders and members of the eight lodges
in our district. We are all in the same boat together, (with some lodges doing better than others) trying to
keep it all afloat. We are all learning to provide service to our members while following the COVID
guidelines. Every Lodge is only as strong as its members, so come out to the dinners and fundraisers.
Volunteer once in a while and stay active in your Lodge. Together we can beat this.

Roamers – August 2020

The Roamers have not been able to meet as a group due to pandemic restrictions. Roamers usually
meet the first Wednesday of every month at the Lodge. Our attendance for each meeting is around 50
which are more than the recommended 10. Therefore, we communicate and plan by emails.
The Roamers next outing will be at Joe Creek Waterfalls RV Resort (KOA) on August 13-16 in
Grants Pass, Oregon. Daniel and Crystal Arbutnot, August Trailblazers, are planning a Jet Boat ride
through Hells Canyon on the Rogue River.

Charlie Blunk, will be the September Trailblazer for our outing to McCloud on September 17-20.
Hank and Mitzi Beck planned the outing which includes the Blue Grass Festival, but due to health
issues Hank asked for help. Charlie Blunk stepped forward to make sure the outing will be a success.
Thank You!

Please stay safe, wear your mask, and practice social distancing. Happy Trails to You!

Secretary – August 2020

The normal running of the Lodge has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 situation.
It has been hectic at best. The Lodge Clerk, Nina Strang, is furloughed again.
Personally, I am new at the job of secretary, so I have often missed something that I
should have done. Someday soon I’ll get the hang of this job and be much better.

For those of you that are not regulars at our twice monthly meetings, we draw four names
at random for our $200 dollar drawing. If present at the meeting — you win! Twice a
year we “draw until a winner” wins. Jan Belardi and Judy Sousa went home with $200 each. Kevin
Christie won the 50/50 for $27, but donated it back to the Veterans’ account. Thank you, Kevin!

We have lost several members the past couple of months. Our hearts go out to those who will come
no more.
Brad Smith , PER, DDGER, Lodge Secretary

2020 Flag Day Ceremony

Eureka Elks Lodge No. 652, Emblem Club No. 298 and Scout Troop No. 54 celebrated Fourth of July with a flag day ceremony. The Emblem Club displayed the flags from the early colonies to today’s 50 star and thirteen stripes, with the history of each flag. The Scouts performed the flag folding ceremony with the meaning of the 13 folds. It was an inspiring day for members and family. Redwood Roamers – July 2020

Joyce Radelich, June Trailblazer, lead 15 Roamers to Lewiston. This was our first outing since the pandemic restrictions were lifted. The outing was from June 4-7. The Peddler’s Fair was cancelled due to the pandemic, but a good time was still had by all. The Roamers shared breakfast together and had a potluck dinner. The last night was steaks at the Moose Lodge. Campfires were held each night. The Roamers next outing will be August 13-16 in Grants Pass, Oregon at Joe Creek Waterfalls RV Resort (KOA). Crystal Arbuthnot, August Trailblazer, is planning a Jet Boat ride through Hells Canyon on the Rogue River.

The next meeting will be on July 1st at 4:30 pm at the Lodge. We hope to see you there!
Happy Trails to You!
