Eureka Elks Lodge No. 652 held its annual Mother’s Day program. This year’s honoree was Agatha Nord. Her journey began in the world of education. After graduating from college, she stepped into the classroom as a teacher, a role that honed her natural ability to guide and inspire. For the four Nord children, she wasn’t just a mom, she was a fixture of their upbringing and the backbone of their extracurricular lives. She took field trips, was a classroom volunteer, youth leadership, serving as a campfire leader and Cub Scout mentor and the “Team Mom”, the Nord household became a hub for local high school athletes. In the 1970’s, she and her husband Larry purchased Cal Courts. While many see it as a fitness center, for her, it has always been a people center and she’s still active in the business today. Even as her own children have grown, her commitment to Eureka hasn’t wavered. She remains a vital force in Humboldt sponsors, continuing her work to raise funds for local youth.
