Veterans’ Committee – July 2020

This is hard times for all but through all we will prevail. The 4th Annual Veteran Car and Motorcycle Show had to be cancelled. If you signed up as a Veteran to be in the car show, you should have received a call from one of our Veteran Committee members to let you know along with a personal letter in the mail.

As far as the Vietnam Vet Appreciation Dinner goes, the same will apply as we are not certain what the future will hold for social gatherings. For now, it is business as usual until this event gets closer and the Veterans Committee can make a better assessment of the situation.

Redwood Roamers – July 2020

Joyce Radelich, June Trailblazer, lead 15 Roamers to Lewiston. This was our first outing since the pandemic restrictions were lifted. The outing was from June 4-7. The Peddler’s Fair was cancelled due to the pandemic, but a good time was still had by all. The Roamers shared breakfast together and had a potluck dinner. The last night was steaks at the Moose Lodge. Campfires were held each night. The Roamers next outing will be August 13-16 in Grants Pass, Oregon at Joe Creek Waterfalls RV Resort (KOA). Crystal Arbuthnot, August Trailblazer, is planning a Jet Boat ride through Hells Canyon on the Rogue River.

The next meeting will be on July 1st at 4:30 pm at the Lodge. We hope to see you there!
Happy Trails to You!
Dale A. Stockly, Wagon Master

Trustees – July 2020

As you are reading this in the July, 2020 Herd Talk, this article was meant to be placed in the April, 2020 Herd Talk, which was not published due to COVID-19 shut down. On a bright note, 11 RV concrete pads have been completed, 160+ feet of six-inch drainpipe, 150 feet of four-inch drainpipe, over 50 yards of crushed rock has been placed in the RV Park to complete the project. This was done by RAO Construction, who poured the concrete pads and members Dale Bridges, Charlie Blunk, Howard Ritter, Bill Barton, Ron Parker, TerryLong, New Member Chuck Gesik, and Kevin Christie. Thank you for stepping up and helping to complete the project in a timely manner and minimizing loss of income to the Lodge as we had numerous requests on the status of our RV park being open.

At the June 3rd, 2020 Lodge meeting, final phase approval for the RV Concrete Pad construction was voted on and approved. A final draft application will be submitted to Grand Lodge. The Board of Trustees, Lodge Officers, House Committee Members, have diligently been working on the 2020/2021 budget. A final draft was posted for review, and due to the COVID-19 restrictions and no Lodge meetings, this budget was finally approved at the June 3rd, 2020 Lodge meeting. I would like to thank everyone involved in that process for their addition time, input, and professionalism.

Special thanks to Ron Porter, Jim Collins, Chuck Gesik, Anne Poole, Donna Jordan, Jennifer Johnston and crew for their assistance in maintaining the beauty of the lawns and shrubbery of the Lodge. Thank you for doing this through the pandemic period, which is the high growth period for lawns and shrubs, requiring increased time commitments necessary to keep your Lodge looking polished and welcoming. I would like to thank the Members and Officers for the support they have provided to me for the last two years as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

I would like to thank Board Members Bob Gish (retired), Marta Martinez, Terry Long ,Pierre Carbonneau for their unwavering support to this Lodge, to the Membership, and to me. Marta Martinez was elected in April to be Chairperson for the 2020/2021 year. I have one year remaining of my elected five-year term as a Trustee. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or issues you feel need to be addressed to the Board.

Fraternally and Respectfully,
Kevin Christie, Trustee

Exalted Ruler’s Column – June 2020

To Our Members:

Many of you have asked me, “When are you going to open?”

The answer is — Our liquor license is through the State of California. They control when we can open. If we try to open early, it could cause us to lose our license.

When we open, things will not be the same for awhile. At this time, the new rules that have been put into place are:

  • No guests.
  • Hand sanitizer station and temperature checks at the front door.
  • Face coverings must be used when not eating or drinking.
  • Maintain social distancing.
  • The bar must be closed until allowed to resume modified or full operation.
  • Alcohol can only be sold in the same transaction as a meal.
  • Parties can be seated together and do not have to be six feet apart. They must be seated at the same time.
  • Drinks can be served at your table.
  • No entertainment until allowed to resume modified or full operation.
  • All dinners will be sit-down dining.
  • No Cook Your Own Steak or salad bar at this time.

We hope these rules will be relaxed soon. As soon as we get approval from the state we will be putting out menus for Wednesday and Friday night dinners.
This Monday, June 1st, there will be a House Committee Meeting at 5 p.m.
This Tuesday, June 2nd, there will be a Board of Trustees Meeting at 6 p.m.
This Wednesday, June 3rd, there will be a Lodge Meeting at 7 p.m.
We hope to see you back at the Lodge soon. We miss all of you.

Fraternally, Kathy Payne, Exalted Ruler

Exalted Ruler’s Column – March 2020

I know I have remarked before how fast time flies but wow this year is over. My year as the Exalted Ruler is just about over and it seems as though it only started a few months ago! As my year ends a new one begins. Kathy Payne, who is a stranger to none will be our Exalted Ruler. There are many new faces to join some of the “old” ones in the officer corps. Be sure to thank them for their service to our lodge. They are spending many hours every week practicing their script for the new roles they have taken on. These hours are in addition to the hours they will be spending monthly for lodge meetings. I’d like to thank everyone for stepping up and becoming involved in our/ our lodge. Wishing you a successful ritual contest and a great year.

I would like to thank everyone who assisted in in my year, my/our House Committee, Ernie Nunes, Brad Smith, Jim Olson, the Trustees and each and everyone of you made it a pleasure to be your Exalted Ruler. I want you all to know, if you don’t see much of me, it isn’t because I don’t want to be here. Keep us in your prayers! Love to all!

Gwen Carrol, Exalted Ruler

Leading Knight – March 2020

The 2020-2021 fiscal year will begin on April 1st. Installation of the Lodge Officers will take place on March 28th and all members and guests are invited to attend. Installation will begin at 5:00 pm in the Lodge Meeting Room with dinner and dancing to follow. The band will be Midnight Special.

On March 15th I will be cooking my last fundraiser for the Purple Pig, a charity that assists handicapped children and others. The menu will be Pork Roast. Please bring in your purple pigs which will be counted that night.

In April the “Big 4” Night will be presented and all of the proceeds will be deposited to the Lodge
Maintenance Account. The Lodge is in need of interior painting, roof repairs, repairs to the BBQ area, and various other areas. If anyone has an item (or items) that would help in an auction, please call me at 834-6612.

My motto for next year is “Get ’er Done and Let’s Have Fun.”

Greetings all Veteran Elks Members. We would like to take a moment to welcome a new Veteran member that has joined the lodge in January of this year. A big welcome to Elise Ashe.
