Veterans’ Committee

Greeting fellow Veterans. The Lodge Veterans Committee had some busy folks and have lots more events in the coming few months.

In June the Veterans Committee and Eureka VA Clinic held our 3rd Annual Car & Motorcycle Show on June 27th. This year was a great success. We had 46 Veteran cars, trucks and motorcycles and well over 100 visitors to look at cars. This year’s guest judge was Joe Paschall from Vanishing Point Racing. Joe is a Vietnam War Veteran and we are thankful that he was able to join us again this year. In the evening of June 27th Eureka Veterans Committee held a Korean War Veterans Appreciation dinner. There were 42 Korean War Veterans in attendance and many guests. I want to give a special thank you to some of the Eureka Elks Lodge #652 Officers for helping with these two events. It is remarkable the continues support that Veterans Committee gets from our lodge to hold events such as these. Also, a special thank you to the Veterans Committee for their hard work and collaboration on these projects. We would not have such successful events as these without your continued support for our Veterans.

The North Coast Stand Down is knocking at our back door and you bet that the Eureka Veterans Committee will be present. Stand Down this year is scheduled for October 3rd, 4th and 5th at the Ferndale Fair Grounds. The Veterans Committee will be providing and serving dinner on Thursday and cooking and serving lunch on Friday.

November 8th, 2019 will be our 4th Annual R.E.D. Friday Event. Please stay tuned for more details regarding
this event.

Veterans Committee – December 2018

On November 9th the Eureka Elks Veterans Committee sponsored the R.E.D Friday BBQ with the Eureka VA Clinic. At this event we were honored to have the Mad River Honor Guard presenting our national colors, Betsy Totten singing the national anthem and pieces by Eureka Vet Center of the “Missing Man” table, Eureka VA Clinic with the Meaning of R.E.D Friday and a celebration of the Marine Corps birthday and Veterans Day.

I want to take a moment to thank some of our sponsors like Eureka Dutch Brothers, United Grocers, Franz Bakery, Eureka VA Clinic, Carbonneau Tile, Arcata and Eureka VFW, and the Eureka Vet Center. A huge thank you to all the volunteers and Committee Members that came out to help. We would not be able to put on such a successful event if it were not for our Volunteers. A special thank you to Kevin Christie for all your preparation in the kitchen. This year we served 196 Veterans and family members for this event. Thank you again everyone, for all your hard work. We look forward to next year.

Veterans’ Committee – May 2018

Greetings, my name is Casey Stephens and I am happy to be the Chair for the Eureka Elks #652 Veterans Committee this year. I served in the US Army from 2005-2009 when I was medically re-tired after an unforeseen combat injury in Iraq in 2009.

We have lots of plans for our Veterans Committee this year. To start, we have been working with the Eureka VA Clinic to be part of the 2nd Annual Car and Motorcycle Show. The Veterans Committee is happy to report that we will be participating in this event scheduled for June 28th, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are a Veteran and would like to be part of this car and motorcycle show please pick up an application at the Lodge. If you know any Veteran that would also be interested and that is not an Elk, what a fantastic opportunity to invite them to the event. The afternoon will be full of fun cars and motorcycles, Vet-eran Services, popcorn and ice cream. Also, this year the Veterans Committee has volunteered to put on and host a dinner for our Veterans (plus one guest) that same evening starting at 5:30. If anyone is interested in being part of the Veterans Committee, all are welcome at our Veterans Committee meetings on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 6:30-7:05 p.m. Our committee looks forward to serving the community and our Veterans this year.
