Leading Knight’s Corner – September 2018

Summer is winding down and what a summer it has been! I am so sorry for the people and families who have lost their loved ones and their property. I am praying for rain!

Now to look forward to fall, I want to remind everyone that come November we will once again be having our "Men’s Fashion Show." I’m hoping that some of our officers will set up to the plate and join in the fun but the rest of you men can be a model too! If you are interested in that, contact me soon so I can give you the low down on it!

I am very excited with what I am planning for Valentines!!!! I am planning to have the lodge dining room set up in a very intimate manner so dining will be cozy and romantic. I will be giving you more information on that in the months to come but if anyone would like to be involved with the planning and / or working it, get in touch with me. This will be something completely different than the usual for our lodge. For now, MARK YOUR CALENDARS for February 14th!!!

Leading Knight’s Corner – June 2018

I would like to thank everyone who helped put on a great Cinco de Mayo! Thank you to everyone who attended. Your presence made this event successful and fun!

The State Convention in San Diego was a great event. We were exposed to some fantastic ideas that will im-prove our already great lodge. I believe you will be seeing some of these ideas being implemented in our lodge in the near future. Thank you members of Lodge 652 for affording the Exalted Ruler, Chairman of the Trustees, the secretary and myself this opportunity. Remember Sunday, June 10 will be the celebration of Flag Day in our lodge. Plan on being there! Don’t for-get Father’s Day is June 17th.

As we head into summer, I hope you will all be safe. Don’t forget this is your lodge too! Come on out and bring your friends!

Leading Knight’s Corner – May 2018

By the time you are reading this, Ritual Competition may be over and I hope we have brought back trophies for the lodge. We have all been working very hard to represent our lodge in the best light, win or lose!!!

I have been working on the Cinco de Mayo celebration here at our lodge and I am hoping you will join us on Saturday, May 5th. The menu is as follows: Taco Bar featuring beef & fish tacos with all the fixings along with chicken fajitas, carnitas, beef & chicken enchiladas, and chili rellenos. Did I mention all the fixings? Well, of course there will be rice, beans, salsa, and guacamole. We will be having Margaritas for $20 per pitcher. We may even be selling shots of TEQUILA by roaming bandits. I think we have been the subject of an APRIL FOOLS, it was reported in the April Herd Talk the time of the event but it starts at 5:30 for cocktails and dinner @ 6:30 and it was stated the price was $15 but in actuality it is $20 per person. Join us for a fun evening at your lodge. The proceeds will be going to Major Project.

Message from the Leading Knight – March 2018

There are many events coming up in March, including some great dinners! So be sure to check your calendar in this month’s Herd Talk.

Foremost on my radar is Step-up Night on Wednesday, March 21st where Chair Officers advance to their new Chairs and initiate new members. We’re all a little nervous about our new roles and could use your support. The Installation of Officers and dinner takes place on Saturday, March 24th. All of these events provide an opportune time to come to the Lodge and meet fellow members and your Lodge officers. Details on both of these events appear elsewhere in this Herd Talk.

Since this is my final article as your Leading Knight, I want to thank you for all your support throughout our year. Our Purple Pig dinner, held on February 11th, was a great success! We all raised over $1,600 which will go toward the California-Hawaii Elks’ Major Project. These funds go to the aid of children with disabilities throughout both states. Kathy Payne, her kitchen crew, and servers provided us with a delicious pork dinner. A special thanks goes out to Dan, Shelley and crew from Rendezvous Music for counting up the cash! In fact, Dan put in an extra $30 to get us over the $1,600 plateau.

Message from the Leading Knight – February 2018

As you can see by reading this edition of Herd Talk, you can tell that February is a busy month. One of the highlights of the month is the Purple Pig dinner, held on Sunday, February 11th. For those of you who have been filling your pigs with coins, this is your chance to bring in your pig and win some prizes. We’ll give out awards for the most Original Purple Pig, the Richest Purple Pig and the Heaviest Purple Pig! And, for all us hams, we’ll have a delicious pork dinner!

The event will begin with cocktails at 4:00 pm and dinner at 5:00 pm. Bring your family and friends and have some fellowship and fun. A big thanks to Shelley from Rendezvous Music for counting up all the cash!

All proceeds from this event will go toward the California-Hawaii Elks’ Major Project which comes to the aid of children with disabilities throughout both states.
