Eureka Elks Lodge No. 652, Emblem Club No. 298 and Scout Troop No. 54 celebrated Fourth of July with a flag day ceremony. The Emblem Club displayed the flags from the early colonies to today’s 50 star and thirteen stripes, with the history of each flag. The Scouts performed the flag folding ceremony with the meaning of the 13 folds. It was an inspiring day for members and family. Exalted Ruler – July 2020
We are starting Friday Night Cook Your Own Steak Night on July 3. The price is $25.00. We have to pay $2.00 sales tax right off the top! Then, as I’m sure you know how much food prices have gone up! Our steak prices have risen at least $4-8 per pound. We have to buy charcoal, potatoes, vegetables, salad, dessert, and coffee or tea, plus we pay for the dish washers and meals for the volunteers.
We will start one of the BBQ pits at 6:00 pm for anyone who would like to eat early. The second grill will be ready at 6:30. To cook your own steak, we will have a volunteer putting your choice of seasoning on the steak for you. We ask that if you have a group of people, one person gets designated to cook the steak for the whole group. This way we can serve more people at one time. You MUST wear a mask when cooking and ANY time you are walking around. Someone will serve you at the serve table. If you want coffee or tea, you must ask for it.
As soon as the Health Department gives us the okay for the bar and entertainment again, we will be ready. Hope it is soon!!!

Leading Knight – July 2020
Things are moving along slowly, but they are moving. We have opened the bar (Sat.- Thur. 2-7 pm , Friday 2-9 pm) and kitchen back up, so come out and enjoy your Lodge. We are trying our best with social distancing and masks in the “New Normal” so be patient and respectful as we are learning to work through this together. Some things have been cancelled but we are working on new ideas and events.
I will be hosting the Second Annual “Purple Pig” Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 22nd. If you would like your business to sponsor a hole or would like to put a team of four together for the event, please give me a call (498-1895) or leave a message at the Lodge Office. I am also planning a Halloween Party (24th) and our annual Oktoberfest bash. More information will be forthcoming about those and other events as things open back up and return to normal. It has been a strange year and it’s already half over so let’s make the best of it. Fourth of July is right around the corner so put on your best red, white, and blue outfit and come on down to the Lodge and show your spirit and support. We will be having our Flag Ceremony and a lunch afterwards. I hope to see you there.
Scott Reinsmith, Leading Knight
Secretary – July 2020
We are slowly reopening and getting up and running after the COVID-19 closure. Nina, our clerk, has returned to work after a very long vacation and time off due to the virus. I want to thank Judy Sousa for coming in daily to open mail and answer phone messages as well as helping us clean the Lodge. There are a lot of behind-the-scene changes that influence the daily administration of the Lodge. Please feel free to come by and see what is different.
I want to welcome the new members initiated on June 17: Daniel Boballot, Tim Cruz, Katherine Kirkpatrick, Gary Ogle, Adam Pritchard, William Seramin and Crystal Velasco. Dave Frazer and Nicole Pacheco attended the ritual as well. We still have candidates waiting in the wings for initiation, which will take place during the second meeting in July.
The 1st meeting in July (July 1st) the drawing will take place until we have 2 $200 winners from in the room, because we missed the April Drawing due to COVID-19.
Brad Smith , PER, DDGER, Lodge Secretary
Veterans’ Committee – July 2020
This is hard times for all but through all we will prevail. The 4th Annual Veteran Car and Motorcycle Show had to be cancelled. If you signed up as a Veteran to be in the car show, you should have received a call from one of our Veteran Committee members to let you know along with a personal letter in the mail.
As far as the Vietnam Vet Appreciation Dinner goes, the same will apply as we are not certain what the future will hold for social gatherings. For now, it is business as usual until this event gets closer and the Veterans Committee can make a better assessment of the situation.
Casey Stephens, US Army Retired, Veterans’ Committee Chairman
Redwood Roamers – July 2020
Joyce Radelich, June Trailblazer, lead 15 Roamers to Lewiston. This was our first outing since the pandemic restrictions were lifted. The outing was from June 4-7. The Peddler’s Fair was cancelled due to the pandemic, but a good time was still had by all. The Roamers shared breakfast together and had a potluck dinner. The last night was steaks at the Moose Lodge. Campfires were held each night. The Roamers next outing will be August 13-16 in Grants Pass, Oregon at Joe Creek Waterfalls RV Resort (KOA). Crystal Arbuthnot, August Trailblazer, is planning a Jet Boat ride through Hells Canyon on the Rogue River.
The next meeting will be on July 1st at 4:30 pm at the Lodge. We hope to see you there!
Happy Trails to You!

Trustees – July 2020
As you are reading this in the July, 2020 Herd Talk, this article was meant to be placed in the April, 2020 Herd Talk, which was not published due to COVID-19 shut down. On a bright note, 11 RV concrete pads have been completed, 160+ feet of six-inch drainpipe, 150 feet of four-inch drainpipe, over 50 yards of crushed rock has been placed in the RV Park to complete the project. This was done by RAO Construction, who poured the concrete pads and members Dale Bridges, Charlie Blunk, Howard Ritter, Bill Barton, Ron Parker, TerryLong, New Member Chuck Gesik, and Kevin Christie. Thank you for stepping up and helping to complete the project in a timely manner and minimizing loss of income to the Lodge as we had numerous requests on the status of our RV park being open.
At the June 3rd, 2020 Lodge meeting, final phase approval for the RV Concrete Pad construction was voted on and approved. A final draft application will be submitted to Grand Lodge. The Board of Trustees, Lodge Officers, House Committee Members, have diligently been working on the 2020/2021 budget. A final draft was posted for review, and due to the COVID-19 restrictions and no Lodge meetings, this budget was finally approved at the June 3rd, 2020 Lodge meeting. I would like to thank everyone involved in that process for their addition time, input, and professionalism.
Special thanks to Ron Porter, Jim Collins, Chuck Gesik, Anne Poole, Donna Jordan, Jennifer Johnston and crew for their assistance in maintaining the beauty of the lawns and shrubbery of the Lodge. Thank you for doing this through the pandemic period, which is the high growth period for lawns and shrubs, requiring increased time commitments necessary to keep your Lodge looking polished and welcoming. I would like to thank the Members and Officers for the support they have provided to me for the last two years as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
I would like to thank Board Members Bob Gish (retired), Marta Martinez, Terry Long ,Pierre Carbonneau for their unwavering support to this Lodge, to the Membership, and to me. Marta Martinez was elected in April to be Chairperson for the 2020/2021 year. I have one year remaining of my elected five-year term as a Trustee. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or issues you feel need to be addressed to the Board.
Fraternally and Respectfully,
Kevin Christie, Trustee

Exalted Ruler’s Column – June 2020
Many of you have asked me, “When are you going to open?”
The answer is — Our liquor license is through the State of California. They control when we can open. If we try to open early, it could cause us to lose our license.
When we open, things will not be the same for awhile. At this time, the new rules that have been put into place are:
- No guests.
- Hand sanitizer station and temperature checks at the front door.
- Face coverings must be used when not eating or drinking.
- Maintain social distancing.
- The bar must be closed until allowed to resume modified or full operation.
- Alcohol can only be sold in the same transaction as a meal.
- Parties can be seated together and do not have to be six feet apart. They must be seated at the same time.
- Drinks can be served at your table.
- No entertainment until allowed to resume modified or full operation.
- All dinners will be sit-down dining.
- No Cook Your Own Steak or salad bar at this time.
We hope these rules will be relaxed soon. As soon as we get approval from the state we will be putting out menus for Wednesday and Friday night dinners.
This Monday, June 1st, there will be a House Committee Meeting at 5 p.m.
This Tuesday, June 2nd, there will be a Board of Trustees Meeting at 6 p.m.
This Wednesday, June 3rd, there will be a Lodge Meeting at 7 p.m.
We hope to see you back at the Lodge soon. We miss all of you.
Fraternally, Kathy Payne, Exalted Ruler
