Eureka Elks Lodge No. 652 held its annual “Mother of the Year Award” on May 12, Mother’s day. This year’s recipient was Karen Hunter. Karen was born and raised in Fortuna. She is not only active in the Elks Lodge as a volunteer but active in the community with Easter Seals and Soroptomist of Humboldt Bay. She gives her all whenever she is asked for help, whether in the lodge or in the community. She is mother of four, a grandmother of eight and a great grandmother of three and one on the way.
